Don Sargent, a PGA professional since 1988, has mentored and taught under many of the finest teachers in the history of the game. He has learned under David Leadbetter, Mitchell Spearman, Mike Adams, the late, great Jim Flick (National PGA Teacher of Year), Mike Malaska (National PGA Teacher of Year), Martin Hall (National PGA Teacher of Year), Mike McGetrick (National PGA Teacher of Year) and the legendary Bob Ford from Oakmont CC. Much of that learning also came from the multitudes of highly skilled PGA Tour, European Tour, LPGA Tour, Web.com, and various other accomplished players Don played with, taught, observed and helped when working these jobs.
Sarge’s own students have won at every phase of competetive golf. These successes include Professionals, Amateurs, Collegiate and Junior players. Some accomplishments of Don’s pupils include 4 Masters Tournament appearances, 4 USGA National titles, 1 Web.com Title, 1 NGA Hooters Title, three Walker Cup appearances, State Amateur Championships, assorted Collegiate victories and all conference players for both men and women. AJGA titles and high AJGA rankings have been achieved. Lastly, several State High School Championships have been won for both boys and girls. Many of Don’s Junior students, through the years, have gone on to receive college scholarships at all different levels and play collegiately all over the nation.
Don Sargent is a Class “A” golf professional at Scioto C.C.. A club that has had Hall of Fame golf professionals George Sargent, Jack Grout, Walker Inman. Also the esteemed Bill Stines. When Don came here he hoped to carry on the outstanding legacy of these men who were some of Golf’s greatest teachers and leaders in the game.
Sarge, as he starts his 16th season at S.C.C., has brought a lifetime of golf knowledge to Ohio. He has also incorporated the most advanced learning technology in the world. Finally, he gives his own teaching application and style that allows him to improve every level of golfer. Sarge has also made a concerted effort to share his entire instruction package with non members of Scioto and fellow PGA members in the S.O.PG.A. and beyond. In Sarge’s time in Ohio, he has won five S.O.P.G.A. Section Teacher of the Year awards and was a finalist for PGA of America, National Teacher of the Year in 2016.
